Which protection level should I choose?
On the whole, Mid-Impact mouthguards are used for rugby, judo, etc. (i.e. sports that do not use a hard stick or ball and where the head is not an intentional target). Hi-Impact for Hockey, Lacrosse, Boxing, Martial Arts, etc. (i.e. sports that do use a hard stick or ball, or where the head is a target). Pro-Impact - the latest in the OPRO range - a unique tri-laminate gumshield which combines the slimmer fit of a Mid-Impact with the extra protection of a Hi-Impact. The ultimate solution for the serious player looking for performance and comfort.

How important is the CE mark on my mouthguard?

Very! Mouthguards are classed as items of personal protective equipment (PPE) and it is an offence to sell an item of PPE which does not bear the CE mark. It is also and offence to apply a CE mark if the class requirements are not met. All OPRO mouthguards are fully and legally CE certified and we are happy to provide our certificates as proof that we have met the necessary requirements. Please contact us at info@opro.com

How long does a mouthguard last?
This varies according to many factors, e.g. growth, usage etc. Normally a growing child would require a new mouthguard once a year. Although the teeth and bones may be growing, the mouthguards are flexible, and can accommodate some movement. Older children and adults may not grow, but the mouthguard will wear down with use and should be checked annually.

My child has an allergy. Can he/she still be seen by the OPRO dentist?
Every case must be considered individually. Please contact our Customer Care team who can discuss this with you.

What do I do if my child has missing or loose teeth?
No problem. Our technicians automatically check the impressions and models for teeth which are yet to erupt and 'block out' the models, i.e. create extra space for the new teeth to erupt.

How do I order? (Even if I have left it rather late!)
Right here on the net! We provide lists for the schools, telling them which children have ordered, and if you order now, your child's name will be on their list with our next update (updates take place at least once a day). If the appointment is today, still place the order now, but also tell your child to attend the session and let the teacher and our dentist know that you have placed an order over the Internet.

What about shop sold mouthguards, aren't they as good?
Definitely not! The clear recommendation of the British Dental Association, the Rugby Football Union and the English Hockey Association is that only custom-fit mouthguards are worn.

How do I 'fit' my new OPRO custom mouthguard?
OPRO mouthguards are made to be comfortable at body temperature and may be tight if too cold. Run your new opro under water from a warm/hot tap (not boiling water) for 10-15 seconds before trying it for the first time.

What do I do if my OPRO custom mouthguard feels dry in your mouth?
If your opro feels dry in your mouth, apply a thin film of petroleum jelly to the mouthguard.

WARNING
The following sections require the use of boiling water. Children should be supervised at all times.

What do I do if my OPRO custom mouthguard is too tight?
It is not unusual for a new mouthguard to be tight, rather like a new pair of shoes which need to be worn in. The most common sore spots are around the edge, particularly above the front teeth, there are two ways to ease any tight areas.

What do I do when the edge of the mouthguard is tight?
1. Determine where the mouthguard is tight.
2. Pour freshly boiled water into a cereal bowl.
3. Hold the mouthguard and dip the offending edge ONLY into the water for 5-7 seconds.
4. Immediately shake off water and place mouthguard in mouth.
5. Immediately rinse mouth with cold water whilst still wearing the mouthguard.

What do I do when the mouthguard feels like it is pressing too hard on the teeth, or if you can't get the mouthguard fully into your mouth?
1. Determine where the mouthguard is tight.
2. Boil a kettle of water.
3. Hold the mouthguard vertically over a sink and carefully pour the boiling water into the offending part of the fitting side of the mouthguard (where the teeth are) for 5-7 seconds.
4. Immediately shake off water and place mouthguard in mouth.
5. Immediately rinse mouth with cold water whilst still wearing the mouthguard.

If required either one of these can be repeated as many times as needed. Remember that the water must be freshly boiled and that steps 4 & 5 must be done in very quick succession.

If you still experience discomfort after taking the above steps, DO NOT use your mouthguard. Contact us at info@opro.com so that we may further assist you.

How do I store my OPRO custom mouthguard?
DO NOT leave gumshield in direct sunlight or near heat source. When not being worn the safest place to keep your opro is in its case.

How do I clean my mouthguard?
You should clean your mouthguard with OPROrefresh mouthguard cleaning tablets after each use. Do not use toothpaste or other cleaning materials to clean your mouthguard. Most importantly, do not machine wash or tumble dry your mouthguard.

The coloured stripes on my gumshield are not as wide as the brochure indicates.
OPRO cannot control the width of each band of colour as it varies according to the width and height of each individual's teeth

What happens if my child has a fixed brace ?
We can still make a mouthguard which will fit around the brace, and our dentist and technicians will ensure that room is left for movement of the teeth. However, the mouthguard will not last as long because of the movement.

What happens if my child will have a fixed brace fitted soon?
We can make a mouthguard now. But, when the brace is fitted, the mouthguard would have to be discarded and a new orthodontic mouthguard made.

Is there an additional charge for postage?
The cost of purchasing your custom mouthguard includes standard delivery of the OPD and the completed mouthguard at no extra cost. However, we are unable to prepay our returns envelopes and therefore ask that you pay to return your impression to us by post.
